im not saying it is bad that jenks did it, all im gonna say is that if you think that suspending some kids from school for drinkin is gonna stop them then you are all crazy.

scooter i have learned my lesson believe me.... i had a friend in ponca that killed a guy 2 years ago from drinkin and driving, he was on his way to a dance and hit a guy riding a bike goin 55mph. But i agree that if you are dumb enough to put the pics there then yea you should be confronted but its not like the kids all got busted at a party and cuffed? i mean it is just pictures of it.....it would have been much easier to say that this is a warning and if we find evidence again then you will be suspended

Parents woud rather have kids suspended than have to pay for there kids getting arrested. When you add up court cost, fines, lawyer fees, insurance rate hikes, and possible driverse license suspension, the suspension from school is rather inexpensive but hopefully a learning experience.

it is really funny that you say it is stupid behavior, just like many do, yetstill do it. what does that say about the person.
you are right, suspension will not put an end to the behavior, but when something does happen as a result of the behavior, they won't have a guilty conscience about it bc they tried to send a message and show that it wasn't acceptable; it was just the fact that the kids were more concerned with looking cool than making good choices.
simply put, you are judged by everything anyone says about you or anything anyone sees you do or better yet what you say about yourself through words and actions. pictures like that may looked cool to some people but to others, the people who really have power to affect your life, it looks foolish and makes you look irresponsible and immature. and normally people in power don't want to be represented that way. Bosses from potential jobs, sororities/frats, parents, coaches, administration, and all sorts of other people seek that information out and read it. it says more about you than you realize and I am sure Jenks does not want to be represented that way, so they took a stand on the issue. it is respectable what they did bc a lot of the time no one ever does.

I think we may have forgotten here that being a "minor in possession" is still illegal. It really doesn't matter if you are drinking it, just that you have it.
How many kids have to get hurt or even die before we realize it truly is a problem? My dad used to say there are no mistakes if you learn the lessons from them. How many kids are not learning the lessons because mom or dad will go bi*%h at administration or threaten lawsuits. Maybe if more parents paid attention to what their kids are doing and who their kids are with, we may not have a problem of this magnitude.

Until you prove yourself, you aren't going to be taken seriously and illegally drinking and doing drugs isn't going to allow people to view you as very trustworthy, respectable or reliable. Parents need to be able to teach their children responsibility or they shouldn't be having the kids in the first place. And Baashar, you are a pirate hooker. I don't even have enough time to get started on you, nor do i want to at the moment...you know what i think of you. go back to whore island =)

Man thats some bull.....its not the schools rights! Thats why im glad out of high school and in to college......I dont have to worry bout any of the stuff! School has the same obligation you do as an adult now.....illegal activity must be reported. They could have simply called the police and had them arrested for underage drinking/possession of alcohol. But they chose to handle it themselves. If they hadn't...and someone found out they knew...then they are now liable for not reporting it. Rules are enforced by administrators/police etc......that is their job...the unfortunate thing is, they do not make those rules. Rules are handed down, they enforce. You'll learn that one day when you get out in the workplace.....

I've been looking at the school handbook today and asked several teachers about this today when I was up at Jenks and this is something that IS in the Admin's jurisdiction simply due to the fact of how broad they keep their rules the students sign. It is all very open ended, which is really a cop-out by the Jenks admin, IMO, so they can do this type of thing if they want to.
