I would have posted this in the 2A boards but nobody has posted their since the state tournament. How sad.


The Ruf-Nex are coming off a very dissapointing season. Finishing the regular season last year at 6-21 it wasn't a pretty site. They won the district championship with a one point win over Dale before falling to Rush Springs. They bounced back in area with a come from behind win against Drumright. The Ruf-Nex were down eighteen points at the half and had one of the greatest comebacks I have ever seen. The Ruf-Nex junior at the time Jay Alford made a layup as time expired in regulation to take it to overtime. The Ruf-Nex dominated and finished with a seven point win. The Ruf-Nex headed back out their the next day to face the #7 team in Preston. The Ruf-Nex hung with them all the way through but in the end Preston prevailed by four. The season was over. Only one senior in Demetrius Wilson. So everything was looking set for this year. Until Theron Jackson(Douglass) and Odis Whitehead(Del City) decided to pick up and move. Until new move in Kendell Rogers(U.S. Grant) got kicked out of school and moved on. Until Willie Arnett and David Island two big men for the Ruf-Nex last year just decided to quit and not play in their senior year.
So this year the Ruf-Nex are not deep at all. Eight in matter of fact. The Ruf-Nex will have some tough games this year. Heading to the Elk City Festival in the second weekend of December and having to face Cade Davis. Going to the Ford Center on December 23rd to play Mt. St. Marys.. Getting to play Riverside and Wewoka for the first time in season play this upcoming season. The Tipoff Magazine had respect for the Ruf-Nex after a dissapointing season and have them pre-season #19 and Jay Alford on the Class 2A second team.

SR- Jay Alford- Great shooter and all around player
SR- Juan Gonzalez- Great defender and has a decent touch from 17 in
SR- Matt Martin- First man off the bench, great defense.
JR- Justin Lowe- An undersized big man but will still get on the boards with you.
JR- Patrick Hardiman- The point guard. Great three point shooter and all around scorer
JR- Juan Guerra II- Great three point shooter and perimeter defender
JR- John "Yao" Wang- Straight from China. Foward/Guard. Great shooter and inside play.
SO- Alonzo Fields- Starting as a sophomore. Will drive you to the basket and make you go crazy.

That's right. Eight varsity players for the Ruf-Nex.

Crooked Oak Wins Opener

The Ruf-Nex came out to start off the 2006-2007 season fresh. The dawning of the new black Crooked Oak Ruf-Nex jerseys. The Ruf-Nex came out slow and the refs didn't help. The "Senior Leaders" in Jay Alford and Juan Gonzalez hit the bench quick with foul trouble. Harding Charter came out and was running and gunning. With no set offense what so ever. With Gonzalez and Alford on the bench the underclassmen lead the way. Hot shooting from Hardiman and Fields kept the Ruf-Nex in the game. With the "Senior Leaders" on the bench the underclassmen kept them in it and Harding Charter only lead 35-32 at the break. The starting five was back on the court to start the second half and were just straight up smoking it. Getting steal after steal and running the fastbreak. Jay Alford was six-for-six from downtown. He finished with a game high I'm just not sure what it was. The Ruf-Nex took the lead and never looked back and just expanded it. When it was all over and done the Ruf-Nex had dropped 52points in the second half. Ruf-Nex 84-64 over the Harding Charter Eagles. The Ruf-Nex will need to get focused real quick as Riverside comes to town for the Ruf-Nex home opener on Saturday.

Due to the snow and weather the Riverside @ Crooked Oak game on Saturday has been canceled. The Ruf-Nex will now prepare for Clinton and Elk City and their OU future Cade Davis as they face those two teams next week in Elk City Festival.

David Island, Kenneth Garnett, Kwaname Henderson, Willie Arnett, Daryl Love have all come out for basketball after the game at Harding. Only Kenneth Garnett played this weekend as he already knew the offense from last year.

The Elk City Festival started Friday afternoon against Clinton for the Ruf-Nex. It was a close game all the way through the game and went to OT. The Red Tornadoes pulled away in the OT and ended up winning it 75-71. Jay Alford finished with 32. The refs were horrible no lie. Country schools with country refs equals no good for city schools like us. Saturday night we had the #4 team in 4A in Elk City Elks. They have D-1 commiment to Oklahoma in Cade Davis. Jay Alford came out hot and was making tre after tre and matching buckets with Cade Davis. The Ruf-Nex trailed 41-20 at the half. Davis had 19 and Alford had 22. Crooked Oak closed it in to four in the third quarter but after three they trailed by seven. A 2A school hanging with the big boys. Cade Davis started to attack the basket and take over in the fourth quarter. Again alot of missed calls and fouls but that's no excuse. The Elks ened up winning 73-60. Cade Davis finished with 30 but Jay Alford outscored him with 39. They both played great.

The Ruf-Nex have a couple of tough road games this week. @ Wewoka and @ Riverside.

New Coaches Aid Rankings came out today and the Ruf-Nex dropped from #15 to #16.

While coming in everything looked bad. Juan Gonzalez, Kwamane Henderson, Daryl Love, Willie Arnett, and Patrick Hardiman didn't make the trip. They had caused some trouble and Coach Upton wasn't going to let the program ride like that. Instead he took eight players. Starters, Jay Alford, Alonzo Fields, Justin Lowe, Yao Wang, Kenneth Garrett and reserves Matt Martin, Juan Guerra II, and David Island. The Ruf-Nex came out hot and had a double digit lead on the Tigers after one. Alford was playing sick but still managing to get his points. In the second quarter the Ruf-Nex extended to 17points but Bulbul a 6'7" shooter made five straight tre's in a row and the Ruf-Nex only lead 54-52 at the half. In the second half Jay Alford the senior leader took over and carried the team. They pulled away and won by a final of 83-70. The Ruf-Nex offense looking good once again. Alford finished with a career-high 49points. He's averaging 38points per contest this season. Fields with 13. Garrett with 9. Island with 6. Lowe with 6. I played eight minutes but didn't pull any shots.

The Ruf-Nex headed out for a one hour drive to face the 0-6 Riverside Braves. The Braves were coming off a beat down last night to 5A #2 Captiol Hill. The Braves were looking for a win after a tough scheulde to start off the year. I say college because all their students live on campus and when you drive up you see their dorms and what not. The Ruf-Nex came out hot and Jay Alford had 20 at the half. The Ruf-Nex lead 31-25 at the half. To start the second half the Braves went on a hot run and took the lead. The Ruf-Nex cameback and took a four point lead into the fourth quarter. That's when the home crowd finally started getting pumped and the Braves feed off the momentum. The Ruf-Nex missed 17 free throws down the line and that didn't help. The Braves escaped and upset the 2A #16 Ruf-Nex 76-71. Jay Alford finished with season low 24. Alonzo Fields added 18. Justin Lowe with 10. The Ruf-Nex will look to bounce back next Tuesday with another road trip this one shorter to Luther. Luther lost to Harding Charter earlier in the season and the Ruf-Nex took care of Harding.

I finished with one rebound in six minutes.

Well the new rankings came out this morning and the Ruf-Nex fall out the Top 20 in Class 2A.

[glow=red,2,300]It Takes Two Overtimes for Upton to get 100[/glow]

In a game that the Ruf-Nex should have blown out the Luther Lions the Lions came out with some fire infront of their homecourt. In matter of face the Lions were up by nine at the end of the first half. In the third the Ruf-Nex started to make their charge and took the lead with less than one minute left in the game. The Lions lead by two and that's when Alonzo Fields drove it to the basket and tie it up with 3seconds left in regulation. The Lions couldn't get a shot off in the last three seconds and it was headed to OT. In the OT the Ruf-Nex again fell behind and this time with 15seconds left in the game big man David Island tipped in a shot to tie up and send it to another OT. In the 2nd OT Ruf-Nex star Jay Alford fouled out of the game. But without him the Ruf-Nex took charge and pulled away for the win. The win being Coach David Upton's 100th of his career. Big ups to that. The Ruf-Nex pull off the confrence win on the road vs Luther with the final of 76-70.

I made one tre in the third quarter.

We just didn't play good. We never play good at the Ford Center. We lost by 20plus last year against Jones at the Ford Center.
