Wire says Beckham turns down a new contract at Real Madrid to play for the LA Galaxy for an estimated $250M. Details have not been officially announced to my knowledge. I'll keep looking. Bringing that type of a 'name' player to the US could reap immense benefits or it could backfire greatly. Guess we'll see.

It's Official: Reuters MADRID, Spain -- Former England captain David Beckham will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and sign a five-year deal for MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy, he told Reuters on Thursday. "This week Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract for a further two seasons," Beckham told Reuters. "After discussing several options with my family and my advisors to either stay here in Madrid or join other major British and European teams I have decided to join LA Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year. "I would like to thank supporters and the people of Madrid who have made my family and I so welcome in my time here making this an extremely difficult decision to make. "I have enjoyed my time here enormously and I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me an opportunity to play for such a great team and their amazing fans." The 31-year-old, who joined Real from Manchester United in June 2003, is the most famous player to sign up for Major League Soccer since it began in 1996. The deal is reported to be one of the biggest in global sport with Beckham set to earn more than $250 million over the duration of his contract. The news ends months of speculation about the future of the midfielder whose contract with Real expires at the end of the season. Having been first choice in the Real Madrid starting lineup since he moved to Spain, Beckham lost his place following the arrival of Italian coach Fabio Capello. He has only started five of Real's 16 league games this season and was known to be frustrated with his lack of opportunities in the first team Reuters and ESPN Soccernet.com soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=399465&cc=5901

I'm in the wrong profession.....just kidding. All I can say is that with my wife and I both as school teachers (I'm at Memorial, she's at Bixby) and at our average combined yearly salaries it would take us 3,906 years to reach $250M!! But ..........as most people do say 'we do get Summers off' I can't imagine how high my insurance premiums will be when I reach that age! HAHAHAHA

Coach Jedamski knows it haha. I guess I was raised the wrong way, and thats not a knock on my parents theyre the greatest parents in the world, its just how things came to be and I didnt realize it until it was too late. Ive finally sorted things out though, and Ill be in college at the beginning of the next school year, now its on me not to screw it up this time. Last 2 years of my life = Fail.

In one loud American voice "WHO CARES?" I hope the team goes bankrupt. Typical American Ignorance. Your calling me ignorant because I expressed what most Americans think of the most boring spectator sport ever conceived. More Americans know his wife than him and for a fledgling league to pay $250 million to a guy that most Americans have never heard of is asinine. But I have to admit I'm hurt being insulted by some spoiled know it all rich kid who's daddy gives him everything he wants.

First off, Baashar where do you live? America I believe? Saying Americans are typically ignorant is stupid. Most Americans have no interest in soccer because we find it boring(including myself). A lot of Americans also think baseball and hockey are boring and don't care about those either. Does that make them ignorant?
And minerbob, Baashar is working for his money. He works longer and harder and makes more money than most people on this board. While his dad does have a lot of money, he is not some spoiled know it all rich kid. He does have more opportunities than a lot of people, because that's what his dad worked for, but don't even try to act like if you had those opportunities you wouldn't take them. Stick to the argument at hand and forget about personal insults.
